How to Enhance Your Classroom with Community Involvement and Virtual Field Trips
with Deidra Benser
There are centers and providers that cannot get out in the community for field trips for variety of reasons like funding, transportation, staff, and location. As a preschool teacher, I have found alternatives in my classroom to give my students these experiences. By bringing community members into your centers or homes is good for networking and great for new families in your community. You can bring guest speakers into centers and homes for guest speakers, story time, and demonstrations. Virtual field trips are great for providers who cannot get out into the community. This also a great way to add technology into the classroom to help expand classroom teaching and experiences. For example, you can be talking about space, and there are virtual field trips where you can see what life is like first hand on the International Space Station.
